BRICS summit have more significance than the G20 for PM Modi?

According to a top official at PMO involved in directly overseeing the summit, "BRICS summit has more significance even more than the G20 Summit for PM Modi," underscoring New Delhi’s strategic recalibration toward non-Western multilateral architecture. While the G20 functioned as a premier platform for India to broker consensus between competing global blocs, BRICS anchors India’s leadership of the Global South without the constraints of Western geopolitical agendas. Within an expanded BRICS, Prime Minister Narendra Modi can directly operationalize India’s multi-alignment strategy, securing vital trade and energy partnerships with Russia, Iran, and the Middle East while preserving full strategic autonomy.

Unlike Western-led forums, BRICS also provides an essential, egalitarian platform for India to manage complex regional rivalries—most notably with China—and build resilient supply chains in critical minerals, agriculture, and digital infrastructure. Ultimately, while the G20 delivered global visibility, BRICS offers actionable leverage to shape an equitable, multipolar global order tailored to developing nations' core priorities.
