Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority continues strong growth and global recognition (UPDATED)

Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has reported a strong performance during the April–June 2026 quarter, highlighted by higher cargo handling, global recognition, infrastructure development, digital transformation and sustainability initiatives. The achievements were showcased in the JNPA Newsletter (April–June 2026).

JNPA retained its position as India's best-performing container port and improved its global ranking to 22nd in the Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) 2025, reflecting its operational efficiency and service excellence.

The Port celebrated its 37th Foundation Day in the presence of Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, along with senior government officials and maritime industry leaders. Several stakeholders and employees were honoured for their outstanding contributions to port operations and logistics performance.

During the first quarter of FY 2026-27, JNPA handled 22.49 lakh TEUs of containers and 27.84 million tonnes of cargo, registering growth of 15.36% and 15.04%, respectively, over the corresponding period last year.

The Port strengthened trade facilitation by engaging with the Container Freight Station Association of India and continued to monitor the progress of the ambitious Vadhvan Port Project, including skill development initiatives reviewed by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

JNPA also achieved several milestones during the quarter, including receiving the prestigious SAGAR AANKALAN Certificate, launching the AI-powered treasury management platform NIVESH, inaugurating new Super Panamax quay cranes at PSA Mumbai, and promoting greater gender diversity through the induction of women drivers at NSDTPL.

In collaboration with CONCOR, JNPA launched full-corridor rail operations through the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), enhancing multimodal connectivity and logistics efficiency. The Port also celebrated the Day of the Seafarer and participated in national logistics forums.

On the sustainability front, JNPA inaugurated India's largest battery-swapping and charging station for heavy electric vehicles at NSFT Terminal and organised several programmes under World Environment Day 2026, reaffirming its commitment to green port operations and environmental conservation.
