SAIL’s Q2 momentum intensifies: PAT up by 315%

New Delhi: Steel Authority of India Limited’s (SAIL’s) performance in Q2 FY '27 reflects a quarter where operational intent translated into meaningful financial impact, with Profit After Tax rising by ~315% over CPLY. SAIL CMD Dr. A.K. Panda commented that, “Q2 has demonstrated sustained focus on operations, production-sales synchronization, production & sales of Iron Ore, push on high value products, can convert into robust financial results when every unit works with clarity of purpose.”

The company also increased its focus on premium products, with the volume of high-value products rising 36% over the first quarter. Supplies of Vande Bharat train wheels to Indian Railways also stabilised during the quarter, reflecting SAIL’s ability to meet the requirements of major national projects.

CMD Dr. Panda said the company was aligning production with market demand in terms of grades and product profiles. This was helping it expand its customer base in infrastructure, engineering, defence and railways.

The company's mines also recorded their highest-ever quarterly production and sales, ensuring a steady supply of raw materials to its steel plants. Surplus output was sold in the domestic market, generating additional value.

SAIL's sales volumes increased 5% compared with the corresponding quarter last year. Better inventory management and increased direct dispatches by rail and road helped speed up deliveries and reduce turnaround time. The share of finished steel in total saleable steel also improved.

The quarter also saw a renewed focus on workplace safety, with special interactions on safety organised across plants for the first time.

Dr. Panda said productivity, employee safety and equipment maintenance must progress together. He expressed confidence that operational efficiency, product innovation and financial discipline would support the company's growth during the remainder of FY 2026-27.
