Will an MoS Visit Break the Jantar Mantar Deadlock?

As climate activist Sonam Wangchuk’s indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar enters its third week, political circles are abuzz with speculations of a breakthrough in the deadlock. According to sources, the government is highly likely to dispatch a Minister of State (MoS) to the protest site to formally request Wangchuk to end his gruelling fast. This potential outreach represents a significant shift. For days, the Centre maintained a calculated distance from the demonstration, but the activist's rapidly deteriorating health, and mounting pressure from opposition leaders have reportedly triggered a rethink.

Wangchuk's unwavering resolve has forced several factions within the ruling dispensation to recalibrate their rigid stance toward the CJP’s demands about the NEET exam leak and Ladakh conservation issue. While a formal dialogue on the resignation of the education minister remains highly unlikely, sending an MoS could serve as a vital olive branch to ease the political temperature. Will this gesture eventually cut ice? it is to be seen.
